Access to the 5G network

What is 5G?

5G is the new generation of wireless technology. It follows on from the previous 4G and 3G networks and began its worldwide deployment in 2019.

5G is currently deployed as NSA (Not Standalone). This means that the network uses 5G cells over a 4G backbone.
In the coming years, we will see 5G SA (standalone) being deployed. This will be using a 5G backbone, which will further increase speeds and reduce latency.

How can 5G offer a better experience for my subscriber?

5G allows for much faster and more seemless connections, wherever your subscriber is in the UK.

5G has a greater bandwidth and faster speeds going up to 1 Gigabits per second, allowing your subscribers to stream videos and download files in no time and meaning less lagging time whilst using data in crowded public places.

It can support even more data and devices than 4G or other previous networks, and therefore a better overall experience for your subscribers.

How can my subscribers access 5G?

At Transatel, an MVNO targeting the UK market will have 5G activated by default for all new activations made on their account. You can opt-out of this option by using Transatel’s SIM Management portal or using Transatel’s API.

For your exisiting base, you can activate 5G, or downgrade to 4G, by using Transatel’s SIM Management portal or Transatel’s API.

Transatel’s data access options allow you to provision 3G, 3G/4G, or 3G/4G/5G. According to the option you choose, your subscriber will automatically benefit from the best conditions that are available to them according to the technology provisioned on the network, coverage and the device. This is why we recommend selecting 3G/4G/5G for all subscribers.

To access 5G, your subscribers simply need to make sure they are using a 5G compatible phone and are in an area with 5G coverage.

Compatible 5G phones include:

– iPhone 12 and 12 mini
– iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
– iPhone 13 and 13 mini
– iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
iPhone 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
– Google Pixel 4a 5G
– Google Pixel 5
– Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
– Galaxy S21 5G, S21+ 5G, S21 Ultra 5G and S21 FE 5G
– Galaxy S20 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 Ultra 5G and S20 FE 5G
– Galaxy S10 5G

Check with the handset manufacturer to find out if the device is 5G compatible or not.

What about 5G in roaming?

All Transatel’s MVNOs will have access to 5G in roaming as per EE’s 5G roaming footprint, with a growing list.

Note : our roaming footprint will be subject to change from time to time.

For an up to date list of EE’s roaming footprint, see our article here.

How do I find up-to-date network coverage for 5G?

To check the network coverage in your area, you can head over to the coverage checker available for MVNOs.
The coverage checker can also check if a device is compatible with 5G.
